Ex-Army chief memoir row: Raja Warring among eight MPs suspended for unruly behaviour
PTC News Desk: In the ongoing clash between the government and the opposition, eight MPs were suspended from the Lok Sabha on Tuesday for misbehaving in the House.
Seven of them belong to the Congress party and one is from CPI-M. They were suspended for the rest of the Budget Session, which will continue until April 2. The MPs were suspended after they allegedly tore papers and threw them towards the Chair during the proceedings.
Their suspension is expected to increase tensions between the government and the opposition. The opposition has been protesting several issues, including claims that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to mention an article based on an unpublished memoir of former Army chief MM Naravane about the 2020 India-China conflict.
The opposition has also raised concerns about US President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding an India-US trade deal and the reported demolition drive at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi.
When the House resumed at 3 pm after several adjournments, Dilip Saikia, who was presiding, named the eight MPs. After this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced a resolution to suspend them for the remaining session.
He said the MPs showed complete disrespect towards the House and the Chair by tearing papers, throwing them, and trying to climb onto the Secretary General’s table.
