Farmers' Protest: Farmers hold 'rail roko' protest for 4 hours, trains to face disruptions
Farmers' Protest: Farmers, who started their march to Delhi on March 6, staged a four-hour 'rail roko' protest across the country on Sunday. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have asked for the agitation to continue in order to press their demands on the Centre.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said: "As part of the agitation that started at the Punjab-Haryana border on 13th February, we have called for 'Rail Roko' across the country today. We urge all farmers, labourers and common people of the country to support us in the 'Rail Roko' today in large numbers."
"We also urge those, who want to undertake train travel between 12 noon-4 pm today, to not do the same for four hours today. People might face a little inconvenience today. This is partial 'Rail Roko', " he added.
The 'rail roko' protest will take place between 12 pm and 4 pm, just a few days after the 'Delhi Chalo' march.
The nationwide 'rail roko' agitation is expected to involve hundreds of farmers protesting in around 60 places across Haryana and Punjab, causing train disruptions.
According to Kisan Mazdoor Morcha leader Sarwan Singh Pandher, hundreds of farmers will sit on railway tracks in Punjab's Ferozepur, Amritsar, Rupnagar, and Gurdaspur, during the 'rail roko' protest.
Furthermore, the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan), Bharti Kisan Union (Dakaunda-Dhaner), and Krantikari Kisan Union, all farmers' organisations affiliated with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, would also take part in the 'rail roko' protest.
In preparation for the 'rail roko' protest, security measures have been reinforced across all borders.
Haryana officials imposed Section 144 in Ambala district on Sunday to prevent significant disruptions. The police have also been stationed in sensitive locations across the state.
The protest is expected to disrupt intercity and state train schedules today.
