Flights can be cancelled if delayed beyond 3 hrs? DGCA issues fresh guidelines to airlines

PTC News Desk: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday issued fresh guidelines to deal with chaotic situations such as the one that occurred yesterday due to fog at Delhi Airport.

The DGCA stated in the standard operating procedure (SOP) for "facilities to be provided to passengers by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights and delays in flights", and that airlines may cancel flights that are likely to be delayed or "consequentially delayed" for more than three hours.


The DGCA stated that all airlines must implement the SOP immediately.

Airlines shall be required to publish accurate real-time information regarding flight delays, which shall be published on: the respective website of the airline; through advance information to affected passengers via SMS/WhatsApp and email; display of updated information regarding flight delays to passengers waiting at airports; and appropriate sensitization of airline staff at airports to suitably communicate with and continuously guide and inform passengers, according to the SOPs.
