Galgotias University asked to vacate AI Summit amid row over Chinese robodog
PTC News Desk: In the wake of the robot dog controversy at AI Summit in national capital, Galgotias University has been asked to vacate the premises, even as no official announcement has been made.
However, the university while denying the claim maintained it never claimed to have built the device. "We have not been informed yet that we have to vacate," a Galgotias professor at the AI Summit said.
The development follows massive backlash over the university's showcase of robotic dog at the AI Summit being held in Delhi.
The controversy erupted after Galgotias University showcased a surveillance robotic dog named "Orion" at the Summit. A viral video shows a university professor, Neha Singh, presenting the robodog and claiming that it was developed under the university's Rs 350 crore AI initiative.
However the device that emerged as a major crowd puller, soon turned contentious after tech observers alleged that the robot was a commercially available unit developed by Chinese robotics firm Unitree, and not an indigenous innovation.
The allegations triggered a row over ownership and attribution claims with tech enthusiasts accusing the university of presenting the machine as its own technological achievement.
Amid mounting criticism, Galgotias University issued clarification denying building any such product or misrepresentation. It said it had never claimed to have built the robot dog and had clearly identified it as a Chinese machine.
