Haryana tragedy: Shortcut to skip toll turns fatal for brother-sister duo in Yamunanagar, youth dies
PTC Web Desk: What began as a normal return journey from an exam ended in tragedy when a car carrying a brother and sister went off a village road and fell into a pond in Yamunanagar district in Haryana.
The accident happened around noon near Kanadi Khurd village, close to the Milk Majra toll plaza. The victims were siblings from Professor Colony, Himanshu and his sister Tanya.
Himanshu had taken Tanya to Zirakpur earlier in the day for her examination. While driving back, instead of entering the toll plaza, he turned towards a village road commonly used by motorists to save toll charges.
Locals said the road is narrow and uneven. As the car moved ahead, another vehicle suddenly appeared from the opposite side. In trying to pass through the tight space, the driver lost control and the car slipped off the road, landing in a pond beside it.
People from nearby houses rushed after hearing shouts. Using ropes and a tractor, they pulled the submerged car out. The windows were broken to bring the occupants out.
Both were taken to a hospital, but doctors said Himanshu had already died. Tanya suffered serious injuries to her face and teeth and is under medical care.
The police arrived soon after and took the vehicle into custody. Officials said further investigation is underway.
