Bomb threat email triggers panic at SDM Kharar office in Mohali
PTC Web Desk: Panic gripped the SDM Kharar office in Mohali district on Friday morning after a bomb threat was received via the official email ID of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office. The threatening message warned of blowing up the SDM office along with other locations, prompting authorities to immediately evacuate the premises as a precautionary measure.
According to officials, the email was received around 9.30 am, following which staff members and visitors were swiftly moved to safety. The entire office complex was vacated within a short span to avoid any risk.
Upon receiving the alert, the police launched a comprehensive search operation. Teams thoroughly scanned the office building, nearby rooms, parking areas and entry and exit points. Given the seriousness of the threat, bomb disposal squads and dog squads were also deployed at the site.
Officials confirmed that no suspicious item has been recovered so far. However, the search operation is continuing as a precaution. The cyber cell has been roped in to trace the origin of the email, with technical teams examining the sender’s email ID, server details and other digital footprints.
The district administration has urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours. Authorities said the situation is fully under control, and normal functioning of the office will resume only after the completion of security checks.
The threatening email reportedly cited protests related to a Madurai dargah in Tamil Nadu as the reason behind the message. The sender alleged that these protests had diverted the attention of the DMK party from local issues to other states. The email claimed that the threat was intended to create fear and exert pressure on the administration, reflecting political and religious discontent.
Police officials said all angles are being investigated, and strict action will be taken against those responsible for issuing the threat.
