Tarn Taran horror: Man, while trying to bring wife home, dies after brother-in-law sets him ablaze in broad daylight
PTC News Desk: A man who went to his wife's parents' house in Tarn Taran, Punjab, to convince her to return home after a family dispute was allegedly set on fire by his brother-in-law, police said.
The victim, Lovepreet Singh from Lopoke village in Amritsar district, suffered severe burns and succumbed to his injuries. His sister-in-law, Gurjit Kaur, tried to save him during the attack but also suffered serious burns. She later died while undergoing treatment.
Police said the accused, Sajan Singh, was also badly burned after getting caught in the flames. People nearby rescued him.
The incident happened on June 13. Tarn Taran SSP Surendra Lamba confirmed the incident on Saturday.
According to the police, CCTV footage shows Lovepreet arguing and fighting with the accused. Shortly afterwards, a man can be seen pouring a flammable liquid, believed to be petrol, on Lovepreet and then allegedly setting him on fire with a lighter.
Police are investigating the case and taking further action based on the evidence collected.
