Heavy rain, strong winds hit Thiruvananthapuram; IMD issues yellow alert for Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, September 29: Parts of Thiruvananthapuram city experienced heavy rainfall and strong winds on Friday morning. Following this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall across all districts of Kerala on Friday.

On Wednesday, the Met department had indicated that conditions were gradually becoming favourable for the withdrawal of the southeast monsoon from the country by September 25.


In an official statement from the Ministry of Earth Sciences on Friday, it was predicted that there would be light to very heavy rainfall in several areas of South India from September 29 to October 1.



The statement mentioned, "Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over ghat areas of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana on September 29, and in Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe from September 29 to October 1. There is a possibility of isolated very heavy rainfall over coastal Karnataka and Kerala on Friday."

Furthermore, the Met Department's official statement also forecasted light to heavy rainfall in Konkan-Goa and Madhya Maharashtra from September 29 to October 1.

It stated, "Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm & lightning with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Konkan-Goa and Madhya Maharashtra on September 29-1."
