Hemkund Sahib Yatra 2023: First jatha flagged off from Rishikesh; portals to open on May 20
Rishikesh, May 17: In the presence of Panj Pyaras, the first jatha for the Hemkund Sahib yatra was flagged off from Rishikesh on Wednesday.
Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen (retd) Gurmit Singh and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami were also present. The portals of Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara would open on May 20.

Army personnel began clearing the snow from the route on April 20. The road would be ready well before the pilgrimage on May 20.
On the other hand, amid heavy snow in Hemkund Sahib, a ban has been imposed on the travel of children and elders above 60 years of age.

"Due to seven to eight feet of snow in Hemkund Sahib, Uttarakhand, a ban has been imposed on the travel of children and elders above 60 years of age. The doors of Hemkund Sahib are opening on May 20," read the official notice issued recently. President of the Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara Management Committee Narendrajit Singh Bindra said as per the instructions of the Chamoli district administration, the number of pilgrims coming to Hemkund Sahib would be kept limited.

"According to the instructions of the administration, sick people, children and the elderly will not be allowed to travel till further orders," he said.
