High temperature and 1.25 lakh litre fuel burned, no chance to save: Amit Shah on Ahmedabad plane crash

PTC News Desk: Union Minister Amit Shah stated on Thursday that rescue efforts following the Air India plane crash were unsuccessful because the intense heat from the burning of 1.25 lakh litres of aircraft fuel made it impossible to save lives.

Speaking to the media after visiting the crash site with Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Shah described the severity of the situation. The incident occurred when flight AI-171 crashed into a government hospital hostel near Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, leaving behind widespread wreckage and destruction.

"There was around 1.25 lakh litres of fuel on the aircraft. The temperature was also very high. Because of which there was no chance to save anyone," Amit Shah said.

"I visited the site of the accident. Almost all the bodies have been recovered. We are in the process of collecting the DNA of the victims' family members. The process will be completed in a couple of hours. We have informed all families of passengers living abroad. As soon as possible, we will collect their DNA samples too," Shah added.

Shah also said that DNA samples of the victims have also been collected of the 1,000 such tests to be conducted. "The central and state Forensic Science Labs will work on this. We don't need to go out," he added. "Final death toll will only be known once the DNA tests are done".
