India Post to resume all mail services to US from October 15; no change in postal rates

PTC Web Desk: India Post on Tuesday announced that all categories of international mail services to the United States will resume from October 15, 2025, after being suspended for over two months.

The services were temporarily halted in August following new US customs regulations that withdrew duty-free exemptions for most inbound shipments, including letters and documents, from foreign countries. The suspension had caused inconvenience to a large number of Indian students, families, and professionals who regularly send parcels and documents to the US.

According to India Post, under the revised rules of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), shipments sent from India to the United States will now attract a flat customs duty of 50 percent of the declared value under the new tariff norms.

However, the postal department clarified that no additional charges will be levied on customers for handling Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) or Eligible Party Services, ensuring that mailing costs remain unchanged. Officials also confirmed that postal rates will continue as before, with no revisions made in light of the resumed service.

India Post expressed confidence that the resumption of mail services will restore convenience and timely connectivity between India and the United States, benefiting students, businesses, and families alike.
