Heavy rain batters several states as monsoon intensifies; Kedarnath Yatra suspended, Mumbai on red alert
India weather update: Heavy monsoon showers continue to impact large parts of India, triggering landslides, flooding and widespread travel disruptions. Several states are on high alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more intense rainfall over the next two days.
Continuous rainfall has severely affected Uttarakhand, where landslides have blocked roads in districts, including Rudraprayag and Chamoli. Falling debris has also been reported along the Badrinath and Kedarnath highways, prompting authorities to suspend the Kedarnath Yatra as a precautionary measure.
Officials are monitoring the situation closely, while road clearance operations remain underway in multiple affected areas.

Maharashtra is also witnessing relentless rainfall, with the IMD issuing a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts.
Mumbai recorded around 172 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, resulting in waterlogging and traffic disruptions across several parts of the city.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has warned of high tides reaching nearly 15 feet and has advised residents to stay away from coastal areas.
In a tragic incident, a man lost his life after reportedly falling into an open manhole in Mumbai's Sakinaka area during heavy rain.
Heavy showers also disrupted normal life in Madhya Pradesh. In Indore, a car was swept into a drain following intense rainfall, while in Sehore, strong water currents washed away several motorcycles. Local authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid crossing waterlogged roads.

The southwest monsoon finally reached Delhi and Rajasthan after a delayed arrival. Delhi experienced heavy rainfall from early Thursday, bringing relief from soaring temperatures.
Meanwhile, the weather department has issued heavy rainfall alerts for nearly 25 districts in Rajasthan, including Jaipur and Dausa.
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is likely to continue across several parts of the country.
July 3 Forecast
Heavy rain is expected over Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Odisha, Kerala, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, and Sikkim on July 3. Bihar may witness thunderstorms with wind speeds of 50–60 kmph.
Gusty winds are also expected across Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, eastern Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.
Eastern Uttar Pradesh may continue to experience isolated heatwave conditions.
On July 4, heavy rainfall is likely over Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha. Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to receive intense showers. Orange alerts have been issued for coastal regions of Goa, Telangana, Karnataka, and Sikkim.
Heatwave conditions may persist over parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and the Nagpur-Amravati region of Maharashtra.
Authorities have advised people living in vulnerable areas to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and follow local weather advisories.
