PTC Web Desk:  Indian hockey player Varun Kumar has been granted anticipatory bail in a rape case by the Karnataka High Court. The court's ruling clarified that the case does not fall under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as those involved were earlier acquainted, and the girl frequented the boy's residence.

The Karnataka High Court noted that the girl had urged Varun to relocate to Hyderabad, but he declined.

Despite the allegations, Varun Kumar's professional achievements underscore his dedication and hard work in the field.

In February, the girl, a resident of Hyderabad, lodged a rape complaint against Varun. The court's decision brings significant relief to Varun, as he has been granted bail under the provisions of the POCSO Act.

Additionally, the court has instructed Varun to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation into the matter.

The case

Arjuna award-winning Varun Kumar was charged under the POCSO act by the Bengaluru Police for allegedly raping a minor.

In her complaint to the police, the girl alleged that she came in contact with Varun Kumar in 2018 through Instagram. He promised to marry her and allegedly sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions when she was 17.
