International-level shooter Sambhaji Patil dies in tragic road accident on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway
PTC News Desk: India’s rising international shooter Sambhaji Patil was killed in a tragic road accident on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway near Palghar in Maharashtra.
The 27-year-old was travelling from Pune to Gujarat on Sunday night for practice along with his friend and fellow shooter, Yash Prashant Chaudhary, when the accident occurred. Their speeding Toyota Fortuner reportedly lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle and rammed into the back of a truck parked along the roadside.
According to a police official, the crash happened when Chaudhary attempted to change lanes at high speed but failed to notice the stationary truck in time. The collision was extremely severe, leaving the front portion of the SUV completely destroyed. Patil died on the spot due to the impact, while 22-year-old Chaudhary sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
Patil had achieved notable success in his shooting career. He won a gold medal in the 25-metre standard pistol event at the Junior World Cup held in Azerbaijan in 2016. He also finished 23rd at the World Championship in the same category in 2017.
According to the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF), Patil was coached by renowned shooter and national coach Jaspal Rana. He also worked as a Sports Officer at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune.
