Kanpur tobacco baron's son arrested four days after Lamborghini rampage
PTC News Desk: Four days after the brazen Lamborghini rampage that injured six and damaged multiple vehicles, Kanpur police on Thursday arrested Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco industrialist KK Mishra from the hospital.
The incident unfolded on February 8 when a speeding Lamborghini went on a rampage and ploughed into the pedestrians and other vehicles before coming to a halt after mounting a divider.
A case under relevant sections was registered based on the complaint of one of the injured, an 18-year-old e-rickshaw driver Mohd Taufeeq.
However the case took a dramatic turn after a man identified as Mohan claimed to be behind the wheels and not the industrialist's accused son Shivam. Mohan, while speaking to the reporters alleged that Shivam, seated beside him, suffered a sudden seizure moments before the impact.
"I was driving when he suddenly collapsed on me. I panicked and tried to hold him with one hand. The car first hit a three-wheeler, climbed the divider and then stopped," Mohan said.
However, police during the investigation based on the CCTV footages and eyewitnesses accounts, found Shivam as the main accused and named him in the FIR despite Mohan's surrender plea in the court. The court refused to accept his application and sought a detailed report from the local police.
Senior officers also cited videos showing bystanders pulling Shivam out of teh driver's seat immediately after the crash.
Meanwhile Shivam's father initially told police that a driver was at the wheel, later changed his stance, saying he was unaware of who was driving the car at the time of the crash. He also claimed that the car developed a technical malfunction a day earlier and was taken out for a test drive after repairs.
Initially, the FIR was registered against an unidentified driver but was later amended to name Shivam as the accused. The supercar has been seized for forensic examination.
