Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh granted 54 day leave from Lok Sabha: Centre informs High Court
PTC News Desk: No sigh of relief for Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh as Centre has informed Punjab and Haryana High Court that Singh has been granted 54 days leave from Lok Sabha.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumeet Goel was informed that after Lok Sabha Speaker constituted a 15-member committee to examine leave application of Members of Parliament, including Amritpal Singh.
Considering the grant of leave, the Division Bench, "This petition had been filed by the petitioner, who is an inmate at Central Jail, Dibrugarh in Assam seeking the following reliefs ... so far the apprehension of the petitioner of being dismembered from the Parliament due to his absence is concerned, the same stands assuaged by the letter dated 11.03.2025 issued from the Lok Sabha Secretariat granting leave of absence of 54 days ... thus the relief sought stands satisfied."
In reference to his other plea seeking authorisation to meet officials and ministers regarding the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to address local development projects, the Bench emphasised 'It would be appropriate for the petitioner to prefer a representation to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha”.
Amritpal Singh, the Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib and leader of Waris Punjab De, is currently incarcerated in Dibrugarh Central Jail under the National Security Act.
