Kolkata doctor murder: Accused Sanjay Roy makes startling revelations about crime during polygraph test
Kolkata doctor murder: In a significant development in the high-profile case of the sexual assault and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, the prime accused, Sanjay Roy, confessed to the crime during a polygraph test, as per exclusive report published in India Today.
Sanjoy Roy, who worked as a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was subjected to the lie detector test (polygraph test) on Sunday. The confession has brought new details to light, revealing the disturbing sequence of events that led to the brutal sexual assault and murder of the doctor.
As per India today report, the crime took place on August 8, when Sanjay Roy, accompanied by a friend, arrived at RG Kar Medical College around 11 pm. They visited the hospital to enquire about the condition of the friend’s brother, who was admitted there. After checking in on the patient, they left the hospital around 11.15 pm and decided to drink alcohol. They purchased alcohol and consumed it on the roadside near the hospital.
Under the influence of alcohol, Sanjay Roy and his friend then decided to visit Sonagachi, a well-known red-light district in North Kolkata. Later, they decided to head towards Chetla, another red-light area in South Kolkata.
While en route to Chetla, Roy and his friend spotted a woman walking alone on the road. In a brazen act of violence, they allegedly molested her. The entire incident was captured by surveillance cameras in the area, adding to the evidence against Roy.
Upon reaching Chetla, Roy’s friend got engaged with a woman while Roy stayed outside. During this time, Roy made a video call to his girlfriend and shockingly asked her to send him nude photos, which she did.
After leaving Chetla, Sanjay Roy and his friend returned to RG Kar Medical College in the early hours of August 9. At around 4 am, CCTV footage showed Roy entering the hospital’s trauma centre on the fourth floor. Moments later, he was seen heading towards the seminar hall on the third floor, where the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was sleeping.
In a chilling confession, he admitted to entering the seminar hall and strangling the sleeping doctor. He then sexually assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene.
The victim’s body was found later that morning in the seminar hall. A crucial piece of evidence was a Bluetooth device found near the victim’s body, which eventually led investigators to Sanjay Roy. Additionally, CCTV footage from the hospital confirmed Roy’s presence on the third floor near the seminar hall at the time of the crime.
Sanjay Roy was arrested by the Kolkata Police on August 10, just a day after the victim’s body was discovered. It is learnt that Roy had a close association with several senior officials in the Kolkata Police.
During the polygraph test, it was also found that Roy’s mobile phone contained a significant amount of pornographic content.
