PTC Web Desk: Renowned actor Arun Govil, known for portraying Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayan', has filed his nomination from the Meerut constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. Supported by Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Arun Govil expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from the people of Meerut.

For Govil, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections marks a new chapter in his life, akin to a "homecoming." Joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2021, he sees his candidature as an opportunity to serve the people of Meerut and contribute to their welfare.

Arun Govil pledged his support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious goal of achieving 400 seats in the Lok Sabha. Expressing confidence in the BJP's commitment to fighting corruption, he believes that the party will fulfill its promises, as it has done in the past.

Arun Govil made his TV debut in 1987 with Ramanand Sagar's Vikram Betaal and eventually shot to fame with Ramayan. The show made him a household name. He also provided the voice for Ram in Yugo Sako's Indo-Japanese animation film Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama (1992).

Having campaigned for the Congress earlier in his career, Govil's transition to active politics took decades. Now, as the BJP's candidate, he aims to leverage his popularity and goodwill to connect with voters and address their concerns effectively.

Govil faces competition from Atul Pradhan of the Samajwadi Party, the sitting MLA from Sardhana Constituency in Meerut district. Despite setbacks in previous elections, the BJP remains optimistic about its prospects in Western Uttar Pradesh.

With the BJP eyeing Western UP with optimism, it is determined to improve its performance compared to the last elections. Despite facing challenges from opposition alliances, the party aims to secure a significant number of seats independently.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP's seat count in Uttar Pradesh decreased compared to 2014, attributed partly to the SP-BSP alliance. However, with shifting political dynamics, the BJP is forging alliances and strengthening its position in the state.

The Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh will be conducted in seven phases, beginning on April 19. Meerut will go to polls on April 26, during the second phase. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4. As Arun Govil embarks on his political journey, the spotlight is on Meerut, a constituency with significant electoral significance. With political alliances evolving and electoral dynamics shifting, the stage is set for a fiercely contested election in Western Uttar Pradesh.
