'Congress MPs might try something': Lok Sabha Speaker advised PM Modi to skip house proceedings
PTC News Desk: Amid mounting pandemonium and rising doubts over Prime Minister's absence during Parliament proceedings, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said he had advised the Prime Minister not to come to the Lok Sabha as Opposition MPs had surrounded his chair.
The Speaker stated that certain MPs had “misbehaved” inside the Lok Sabha and claimed he had prior inputs suggesting that Opposition MPs, led by the Congress, might try to disrupt proceedings during the Prime Minister’s address.
The Lok Sabha witnessed high drama on Wednesday as women MPs from the Opposition marched towards the Treasury benches carrying banners ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled reply to the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address. However, the Prime Minister was not present in the House.
While BJP MP PP Chaudhary was speaking, Opposition members moved into the Well of the House, raising protests over the trade agreement with the United States and former Army chief MM Naravane’s unpublished book. As the protests intensified, the Speaker adjourned the House without the Prime Minister delivering his address.
“It has never been the tradition of this House to bring political differences to the office of the Speaker. What happened yesterday is a black spot in the history of Parliament,” Speaker Birla.
