Married woman shot at Gurugram club for rejecting marriage proposal; two arrested

PTC News Desk: A 25-year-old woman was shot inside a club in Gurugram after she allegedly turned down a marriage proposal, police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred in the early hours of December 20 on MG Road. Police were alerted about a firing case and found the injured woman admitted to a private hospital, where she was initially not in a condition to record her statement.

The woman’s husband, a resident of Najafgarh in Delhi, filed a complaint stating that his wife, Kalpana, who works at the club, was shot by Tushar, a man from Sangam Vihar in Delhi. He said that Kalpana called him around 1 am on December 19 to inform him about the shooting. He also alleged that about a month earlier, Tushar had visited their home, argued with them and left.

An FIR was registered at Sector 29 police station based on the complaint. During the investigation, police arrested two accused — Tushar alias Jonty (25) and his friend Shubham alias Jony (24) — from Baraut in Uttar Pradesh.

Police said Tushar admitted during questioning that he had befriended the woman about six months ago and wanted to marry her, but she had repeatedly refused. On the night of December 19, he allegedly went to the club with Shubham, proposed again and, after being rejected, shot her.

Both accused are in custody and further investigation is ongoing, police said.
