'Nari Shakti' in Uttarakhand: Three generations of women exercise their voting rights

PTC News Desk: In Dehradun, Uttarakhand, this morning witnessed a heartening family outing as a grandmother, a mother, and her two daughters stepped out together to cast their votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The election, which commenced today with 102 contests across 21 states and union territories, saw the multi-generational family proudly displaying their inked fingers, symbolizing their participation in the democratic process.

A photo shared by news agency ANI captured the moment, featuring Prabha Sharma, the grandmother, alongside her daughter, Preeti Kaushik, and her granddaughters, Shamita and Sakshi Kaushik. Their united act of voting reflects the spirit of empowerment and unity within the family.

The state of Uttarakhand is witnessing voting for all five of its Lok Sabha seats today. In the previous 2019 election, the BJP secured victory in all five seats and maintained its dominance in the subsequent Assembly election. Although the BJP's performance in the Assembly election slightly decreased compared to the previous term, the party's continued stronghold remains evident.

Dehradun, falling under the Haridwar seat, has been historically significant, with BJP's Ramesh Pokhriyal holding the position since 2014. However, this election sees a change in candidacy, with Trivendra Singh Rawat representing the BJP, while the Congress presents Virender Rawat as their candidate.

In another part of Uttarakhand, a newlywed couple, adorned in wedding attire, celebrated their first act as a married couple by casting their votes outside a government school-turned-polling booth in Pauri Garhwal. The moment encapsulates the importance of civic duty and participation in shaping the future of the nation.

The Garhwal constituency, also dominated by the BJP since 2014, presents Anil Baluni as the BJP's candidate, who competes against the Congress' Ganesh Godiyal for the seat.
