Nepal unrest update: An Indian tourist bus returning from the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu was allegedly attacked by protesters during the ongoing unrest in Nepal, leaving several passengers injured. The bus driver claimed the incident occurred on September 9, near Sonauli on the India-Nepal border, when agitators targeted the vehicle carrying 49 Indian nationals.

According to the driver, the mob pelted stones at the bus, shattering windows and injuring several passengers, including women and elderly tourists. He alleged that despite the vulnerable condition of the passengers, the attackers showed no restraint.

Bus driver Ramu Nishad told reporters in Sonauli, “We were returning after darshan at the Pashupatinath temple when suddenly a mob surrounded our bus and attacked without any reason. There were women and elderly among us, but the protesters did not care.”

Reports said the injured passengers were admitted to a hospital in Kathmandu, while the remaining tourists were flown back to India on a special plane arranged by the Indian Embassy with assistance from the Nepalese government.

The attack comes amid escalating youth-led protests in Nepal, spearheaded by the so-called Gen Z movement, which has demanded the dissolution of Parliament and amendments to the Constitution to better reflect public aspirations.

On Thursday, Gen Z protest leaders held a press briefing to outline their demands, while some representatives engaged in talks with President Ramchandra Paudel and Army Chief Ashok Raj Sigdel at the Army Headquarters in Kathmandu in an effort to find a resolution.
