Noida student dies by suicide over harassment by professor, seeks justice in suicide note
PTC News Desk: A second-year BDS student from Gurugram, Jyoti Sharma, died by suicide in her hostel room at a private university in Greater Noida on Friday night. A suicide note, allegedly written by Sharma, accuses two professors and the university administration of subjecting her to mental harassment.
Following the incident, police have arrested two university staff members in connection with her death.
Additional DCP of Greater Noida, Sudhir Kumar, stated, "Two staff members from the university management have been taken into custody based on the complaint filed by the student's family." He also confirmed that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
"I want them to go behind the bars. They mentally harassed me. They humiliated me. I have been in this stress for a long time. I want them to feel the same thing," Jyoti wrote in her suicide note.
Following the incident, students staged protests against the university administration, accusing it of negligence. They claimed Jyoti had been under severe stress due to allegations of forging signatures. During the protest, a brief clash occurred between the demonstrators and the police.
A video that has since gone viral shows the victim's family members confronting and physically assaulting the head of the dentistry department.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ajit Kumar, the university’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed that two faculty members have been suspended. “For now, two teachers have been suspended. A committee has also been formed to investigate the matter. Action will be taken against those found guilty based on the committee’s report,” he said.
