'Not a biblical 100-year-old conflict': Opposition slams Trump after he offers mediation to resolve Kashmir conflict

PTC News Desk: A day after US President Donald Trump announced that US brokered a ceasefire deal between India and Pakistan, he has now offered mediation to resolve the Kashmir conflict. Donald Trump on Sunday said that he is looking forward to working with both countries to reach a solution on the Kashmir issue after a "thousand years."

On his Truth Social platform, Trump said, "I will work with you both to see if, after a “thousand years,” a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir. God Bless the leadership of India and Pakistan on a job well done!!!"

However Donald Trump's mediation offer has drawn massive criticism from India's opposition parties. Congress while rejecting Trump's mediation offer said that the issue is not a "biblical 100-year-old conflict", but only started 78 years ago.

In a post on X, Congress MP Manish Tewari said, "Someone in the US establishment needs to seriously educate their President @POTUS @realDonaldTrump that Kashmir is not a biblical 1000-year-old conflict. It started on October 22, 1947 - 78 years ago when Pakistan invaded the Independent State of Jammu & Kashmir that subsequently was ceded to India in' FULL' by Maharaja Hari Singh on October 26, 1947 that includes areas illegally occupied by Pakistan till now. How difficult is it to grasp this simple fact?"

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal slammed US President Donald Trump over his recent social media post where he offered to mediate between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir issue following the cessation of hostilities between the two countries.

Sibal stated that "many questions" will be raised following this post, and how "misinformation" was given to the opposition regarding the issue.

Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Manoj Jha on Sunday also slammed US President Donald Trump after he offered to mediate between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir issue, asking the Government of India to lodge a strong protest. Jha asked President Trump to improve his "General Knowledge".

"Who are you to decide? Who gave you the mandate? First, you need to improve your general knowledge because that country (Pakistan) was born 78 years ago, and you're using a metaphor of 1,000 years. Don't make the mistake of thinking of us as a geopolitical football. There should be a strong protest from our government on this," Manoj Jha said.
