Operation Akhal: Terrorist killed in fierce encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam
PTC News Desk: One terrorist was killed and two others remain trapped in a gunfight between security forces and militants in the Akhal forest region of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday, as part of Operation Akhal, the Chinar Corps confirmed on X.
The militants are members of The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and are suspected to have been involved in the recent Pahalgam attack, according to officials. It is believed the terrorists are hiding within Dachigam National Park near Srinagar. Security forces have sealed off the area and are intensifying efforts to eliminate the remaining two.
This encounter follows Operation Mahadev, during which three Pakistani TRF operatives were killed, including senior Lashkar commander Suleiman Shah, also known as Musa Fauji, who was allegedly the mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack. Security personnel recovered a significant stockpile of weapons from the site, including 17 grenades, an M4 carbine, and two AK-47 rifles.
Intelligence had identified five TRF militants operating in the area. With three killed during Operation Mahadev and one during Operation Akhal, only one terrorist is believed to be at large.
