PM Modi accuses opposition of not being well-prepared in no-confidence debate; issues statement on Manipur

PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his response to the no-confidence motion debate on Thursday that when the government said it would make India the third-largest economy in the next five years, a responsible opposition would have asked how it would do so, but the reality is that he had to teach them.

The Prime Minister stated that the Opposition should have asked how the government plans to make the country's economy the third largest in the next five years, but 'Yeh bhi mujhe hi sikhana pada raha hai (I have to teach this too)'.

During his speech, he also chastised the opposition for holding such a debate, claiming that he gave them five years in 2018 to work hard and return in 2023. "However, you couldn't even do it in five years. Kya haal ho gaya hai aapka," Prime Minister Modi stated.

The Prime Minister recalled that opposition parties had filed a no-confidence motion against his government in 2018, just before the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.

"God is very kind and speaks through some medium. I believe that it's the blessing of God that opposition has brought this motion. I had said during the no-confidence motion in 2018 that it was not a floor test for us but a floor test for them and as a result they lost the elections."

PM Modi stated that he told opposition parties that it was their floor test and that they could not even gather the number of votes required in the 2018 no-confidence motion.

"In a way, Opposition's No-Confidence has always been lucky for us. Today, I can see that you (Opposition) have decided that NDA and BJP will come back in 2024 elections with a grand victory, breaking all previous records, with the blessings of the people," he added.

PM predicts another no-confidence motion in 2028

The Prime Minister went on to say that the Opposition will file another no-confidence motion in 2028.

"The continuity of planning and hard work will go on. There will be new reforms to it as per the need and all the efforts will be made for performance. We will be the third-largest economy. The country trusts that when you bring the no-confidence motion in 2028, the country would be among the top three nations of the world."

PM Modi speaks on Manipur issue

PM Modi assured the people of violence-hit Manipur that the country is with them and that everyone will work together to restore peace as quickly as possible. He accused previous Congress governments in Manipur and the northeast of leaving an extremely unstable situation in place.

PM Modi also chastised the opposition for politicizing the Manipur situation, as opposition MPs stormed out just as he began speaking about the state, where over 180 people have been killed in Meitei-Kuki ethnic conflicts since May 3.

"The center is working hard to punish those involved in the Manipur violence with the harshest punishment possible. I would like to remind the people of Manipur - mothers, sisters, daughters - that the country is with you. We will face this challenge together and ensure that peace returns. I assure the people of Manipur that the state will resume its development journey," PM Modi remarked.

"The northeast has suffered the most as a result of the Congress's long rule. Manipur, which has made so many sacrifices for the country, was never given its due by the Congress. There was a moment in Manipur when rebels ran everything. Who was in charge at the time?" PM Modi inquired, to which National Democratic Alliance (NDA) members uniformly responded, "Congress, Congress."
