PM Modi criticises Opposition ahead of Parliament Session: 'Attempted to muzzle me'

PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for unity on Monday, asking opposition parties to put their differences behind them and collaborate with the government to advance India's growth.

Speaking to the media prior to the commencement of the Parliament's Monsoon Session, Prime Minister Modi said, "I would like to request all the MPs of the country that from January till now we have fought as much as we had to, but now that period is over, the public has given its mandate."

"I would like to ask all the parties to rise above party lines and dedicate themselves to the country and use this dignified platform," he said, urging the opposition to set aside differences and work together for the good of the country.

He said, "In the election year of January 2029, you can play any game, but till then we should participate for the empowerment of the farmers, youth, and the country."

Also, PM Modi attacked the Opposition for interfering with earlier Parliamentary sessions in order to keep him from addressing in front of the House. He denounced their 'negative politics' and said that they were abusing Parliament's time to cover up their mistakes. He said that such actions were inappropriate in a democracy.

"During the first session of Parliament, there was an attempt to muzzle the government's voice, which was chosen by the nation's 140 crore voters with a majority. An attempt was made to muffle the prime minister's voice for 2.5 hours. "This Parliament serves the nation, not the party," he declared.

As his NDA alliance begins its third consecutive term—a "milestone not achieved in 60 years," the prime minister made this request. He emphasised the significance of Budget 2024 in influencing the future while reaffirming his adherence to the commitments given to the voters.

"Our goal is to implement the promises we have been making to the citizens of this nation. For Amrit Kaal, this budget is significant. The budget that is passed today will determine our course for the next five years of government. By 2047, this budget will also serve as a solid basis for our goal of creating 'Viksit Bharat," he declared.

PM Modi emphasized that it is the responsibility of all political parties and members of Parliament to collaborate over the next five years, pointing out that India is presently witnessing an eight percent growth rate, placing the nation at the forefront of opportunities.

Today, July 22, marked the start of the Monsoon session of Parliament, which will last for 19 sittings till August 12. The Economic Survey will be presented to Parliament later today by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and on Tuesday the Union Budget 2024 will be presented.
