PM Modi lays foundation stone for redevelopment of 22 railway stations in Punjab
Chandigarh, August 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday virtually laid the foundation stone for the mega redevelopment project of 508 railway stations across the country under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme.
Several Union Ministers and Chief Ministers or Governors also attended the laying of foundation stones from their respective states, where the railway stations will be completely renovated.
Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, also attended the event at Budgam.
The megaproject is anticipated to cost around Rs 25,000 crore.
These 508 stations are located in 27 states and union territories, including 55 in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 15 in Haryana, and 13 in Karnataka.
According to an official statement, the renovation would include modern passenger facilities as well as well-designed traffic circulation, inter-modal integration, and well-designed signs for passenger navigation.
The station buildings' design will be influenced by local culture, heritage, and architecture.
Earlier on Saturday, the Prime Minister hailed the measure, saying that it will improve 'Ease of Living' and increase comfort and convenience.
He stated that the redevelopment, which will cost nearly Rs 25,000 crore, will change the way the nation envisions train infrastructure.
He has emphasized the need of providing world-class services at train stations, noting that railways are the preferred means of transportation for people across the country.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme was launched with the goal of redeveloping 1,309 stations across the country.
