Respite from heat: Punjab, Delhi, Himachal, Haryana to witness heavy rain, thunderstorms
Weather update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of north India. According to the forecast, the national capital Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Haryana will witness severe rain for two days on May 24 and 25.
Because of an approaching western disturbance, the weather department predicts thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms throughout northwest India till Thursday.
“Duststorm/thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds and light rain is likely to affect Delhi-NCR. Parts of northwest India may receive heavy rainfall today and tomorrow (Thursday),” IMD stated.
According to the IMD, eastern states such as Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Nagaland, and Sikkim may also see heavy rain till Friday. A dust storm is also likely in Rajasthan on Wednesday and Thursday.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department projected rain in Kerala over the next five days. The IMD has issued a yellow notice for the state's Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts for May 26 and 27.
