River water levels surge in Uttarakhand after torrential rains, SDRF teams on high alert
Dehradun (Uttarakhand), July 19: Heavy rainfall in the hilly and plain areas of Uttarakhand for the past nine days has resulted in an increase in river water levels, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been directed to be on high alert, officials said on Wednesday.
According to SDRF officials, nine days of persistent rain in Uttarakhand's hilly and plain regions caused river water levels to rise, prompting SDRF personnel to maintain a high level of readiness.
Officials said, "River Ganga is once again in spate as a result of constant rain that has been falling in the plains and hills of all of Uttarakhand for the past nine days, increasing the risk of flooding in the nearby areas. With the unexpected increase in the water level of river Ganga, there is a danger of flood in the coastal areas of Mayakund, Chandrabhaga, Chandreshwarnagar etc."
Manikant Mishra, SDRF Commandant, has directed that all SDRF units be on high alert in the face of these circumstances. SDRF officials and jawans have been advised to remain on constant alert due to the possible danger posed by the rising water level of the Ganga.
The Alaknanda and Ganga tributaries are in spate due to heavy rains in the mountains. According to the Emergency Operation Center, four districts have been warned of the possibility of rising water levels in the Alaknanda River in order to avoid any adverse incidents.
Officials also stated that SDRF Commandant Manikant Mishra is actively monitoring the situation by being in constant contact with SDRF troops and guiding the SDRF control room for a speedy flow of information.
SDRF personnel are fully equipped with rescue equipment in high-risk areas to deal with the flood threat. Officials noted that SDRF jawans are constantly monitoring the Ganga's coastal areas.
