'Heard a firecracker-like sound...': Salman Khan says Lawrence Bishnoi 'tried to kill’ him
PTC News Desk: Salman Khan says that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang opened fire on his Mumbai home in April of this year with the intent to kill him and his family members. The actor's statement is part of the charge sheet filed by Mumbai Police in a local court in connection with that incident.
Salman told police that he heard a firecracker-like sound while sleeping at his residence in Galaxy Apartments in the early hours of April 14. His police bodyguard informed him around 4.55 a.m. that two persons on bikes had fired at the first-floor balcony, he added.
The Bollywood actor stated that there had been previous attempts to hurt him and his family and that his bodyguard had filed a complaint about the firing at Bandra police station.
The actor found out that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi had confessed and accepted responsibility for the attack in a Facebook post, according to the statement.
Lawrence Bishnoi and his gang members had talked about killing Salman Khan and his relatives, according to the statement, adding, "So, I believe that Lawrence Bishnoi, with the help of his gang members, carried out the firing incident when my family members were sleeping and (they were) planning to kill me and my family members."
The actor informed authorities that he and his family had received multiple threats in recent years.
A threat letter was discovered on a bench opposite his building in 2022, and they received an email threat from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in March 2023, he stated. In January 2024, two unidentified people attempted to break into his property in Panvel using fake identities, according to the actor.
Earlier this month, police submitted a 1,735-page charge sheet in the fire case with the special court for Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act cases.
The court recently took cognisance of the charge sheet, ruling that there was prima facie enough evidence to proceed against the six apprehended defendants.
Vickykumar Gupta, Sagarkumar Pal, Sonukumar Bishnoi, Anujkumar Thapan (now dead), Mohd Rafiq Choudhary, and Harpal Singh were all arrested in connection with the case. Thapan allegedly committed suicide in police custody after being arrested. The other five are currently in judicial custody.
