Seven children among 11 hospitalised after dead lizard found in birthday cake in Maharashtra
PTC News Desk: In a horrific incident from Maharashtra's Nalasopara, eleven people including seven children and four woman suffered suspected food poisoning after eating a birthday cake that contained a dead lizard.
According to reports, guests - 7 children and four women - complained of sudden stomach and chest pain shortly after eating the cake.
They were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Doctors said all of them are in stable condition.
The incident has raised alarming concerns over food safety and the quality standards of bakery products.
Three children are currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit after allegedly falling ill from eating a cake at a birthday celebration in Nalasopara East.
The incident took place at the Neelkantheshwar building in Takipada, where a 25-year-old woman was celebrating her birthday. At around 6 pm, some children from the neighbourhood arrived with a cake for the celebration.
Soon after eating the cake, several people complained of a burning sensation in their chest and started vomiting. They were rushed to Vijayalaxmi Hospital for treatment.
A total of 11 people, including seven children and four women, were admitted to the hospital with suspected food poisoning. Three children are being treated in the ICU.
The children reportedly told doctors that they found a dead lizard in the cake. However, the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning has not yet been confirmed.
“All those undergoing treatment are stable,” said Dr Vidya Sawant of the hospital.
After being informed about the incident, Tulinj Police visited the hospital and began an investigation. The cake was reportedly bought from Chamunda Cake Shop in Takipada. Police have collected samples of the cake and sent them for testing. The exact cause of the illness will be known after the test reports are received.
