SpiceJet's Amritsar-Dubai flight cancelled as Middle East airspace closure disrupts operations
PTC Web Desk: Rising tensions in the Middle East and subsequent airspace restrictions are beginning to impact international operations of Indian airlines. The effects were visible on Tuesday at Amritsar International Airport, where SpiceJet was forced to cancel its flight SG-55 to Dubai. The flight, which was scheduled to depart at 9.15 am, did not take off due to emerging geopolitical concerns in the region.
The Dubai route holds significant importance for hundreds of NRIs from Punjab who travel frequently for work and family-related reasons. The cancellation caused major inconvenience to passengers who were set to fly out from Amritsar.
In an official statement released on Monday, SpiceJet said, “Due to airspace restrictions over the Middle East, some of our flights may be affected. Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights on our official website or contact our helpline numbers for updated information.”
The airline has appealed to all travellers to verify their flight status before leaving for the airport. Passengers can check updates on http://spicejet.com/#status or call SpiceJet’s helpline at 91 (0)124 4983410 or 91 (0)124 7101600.
If the security situation in the Middle East does not stabilise soon, more flights, particularly those headed to the Gulf nations like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain, could face delays, diversions, or cancellations. Airlines are closely monitoring the developments to ensure passenger safety and schedule reliability.
