Surajkund fair tragedy: Ride operator, staff arrested after swing collapses mid-air killing cop
PTC News Desk: In a significant development, Faridabad police has arrested ride operator and one of his staff members. The body of the deceased inspector Jagdish Prasad was hand over to the family after post-mortem.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has asked officials to strictly follow safety rules at fairs and other public events. He expressed condolences over the death of Inspector Jagdish Prasad, who lost his life in the accident, and said the government stands with his family during this difficult time. The Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each for those who were seriously injured.
Meanwhile, Haryana DGP Ajay Singhal and Faridabad Police Commissioner Satendra Kumar Gupta met the victim’s family and offered their condolences. They also visited the hospital to check on the condition of the injured people.
Around 19 people were on the swing when it tilted at about 6 pm on Saturday and crashed to the ground, injuring 11 people. DGP Ajay Singhal announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the inspector’s family and a government job for one family member.
The DGP said Inspector Prasad would be given the status of a martyr and praised him for losing his life while trying to save others. The district administration said the 39th Surajkund International Crafts Festival will continue on Sunday, but the swing area will remain closed until the investigation is completed.
