Tahawwur Rana stayed at Mumbai hotel days before 26/11 terror attacks: Cops in supplementary chargesheet
Mumbai terror attacks: Tahawwur Hussain Rana stayed at a hotel in suburban Powai for two days until November 21, 2008, the Mumbai Police stated in a 405-page supplementary chargesheet filed against the Pakistani-origin Canadian in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case. It was the fourth chargesheet filed by the Mumbai Police in the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) cases before a special court hearing the cases.
The supplementary chargesheet could not be registered in court on Tuesday, thus the evidence against Rana will now be presented in court on Wednesday.
Rana, who is currently being held in the United States on several charges for his role in the Mumbai attacks, is known to be affiliated with Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley, one of the key conspirators of the 26/11 terror attacks.
1. According to the chargesheet, Tahawwur Rana arrived in India on November 11, 2008, and stayed till November 21, 2008. According to a senior Mumbai Police source, he spent two of these days at the Renaissance Hotel in Powai.
2. According to the officer, the police have found documentary evidence against Rana as well as statements establishing his role in the plan.
3. The documentary evidence reveals that Rana was an active participant in the conspiracy with Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley, he added.
4. Rana was the one who helped Headley in obtaining an Indian tourist visa using forged documents. According to the officer, he allegedly gave logistic help to the Lashkar-e-Taiba in carrying out the 26/11 terror attacks.
5. The police have also found email conversations between Headley and Rana, and in one of the emails relating to the 26/11 terror attacks, Headley inquired about Major Iqbal's email address.
6. Major Iqbal, an Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) operative in Pakistan, was listed as an accused in the 26/11 terror plot case.
