Uttar Pradesh court initiates judicial investigation into Mukhtar Ansari’s death

PTC news Desk: In Uttar Pradesh's Banda, a chief judicial magistrate's court has ordered a judicial inquiry into the demise of gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari, announced a senior official.

Banda's Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bhagwan Das Gupta, designated Garima Singh, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (MP-MLA court, Banda), as the investigating officer for the case. The CJM has mandated the submission of the probe report within a month.

Ansari, aged 63, was transported from Banda District Jail to Rani Durgavati Medical College in an unconscious state on Thursday evening. Tragically, he passed away at the hospital due to a cardiac arrest.

Following his death, Afzal Ansari, Ghazipur MP and Mukhtar Ansari's brother, alleged foul play, suggesting that his brother had been administered slow poison while in jail. Afzal Ansari cited an incident 40 days prior and claimed that Mukhtar Ansari had been poisoned again recently, leading to his deteriorating health. Earlier complaints were made during a virtual court hearing in Barabanki, where Ansari's lawyer submitted an application, alleging that his client had been subjected to "slow poison" in jail.

Prior to his demise, Ansari had been hospitalised briefly after complaining of abdominal pain. According to the probe order, the Senior Superintendent of District Jail, Banda, requested the appointment of an officer for the judicial inquiry into Ansari's death on March 28.

Director General of Prisons, SN Sabat, confirmed that a judicial inquiry would be conducted into the circumstances surrounding Ansari's death.
