Monsoon mayhem: Uttarakhand rain triggers severe waterlogging in Rishikesh, SDRF rescues 50 people

Rishikesh, August 10: Unrelenting heavy rains unleashed havoc in Uttarakhand's Rishikesh, inundating the Dhalwala and Khara regions on a fateful Wednesday night. The resultant waterlogging has wreaked havoc on many households as water levels surged from the Rishikesh saline source, leaving officials scrambling to respond.

With urgency paramount, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) swung into action to extricate individuals marooned within their water-engulfed homes in Dhalwala and Khara. Under the cloak of night, the SDRF task force descended on the scene, deftly evacuating approximately 50 individuals from their submerged residences, shuttling them to safety via rafts, as confirmed by officials.


Officials recounted the late-night summons received by the SDRF team from Thana Munikireti, reporting the dire situation wrought by escalating water levels in the Rishikesh saline source area. "Rescue of the entrapped populace necessitates SDRF intervention," officials elucidated, outlining the gravity of the mission.

In the same breath, Uttarakhand's Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, weighed in, disclosing that the disaster control center had meticulously assessed the state's precipitation-induced predicament. With sagacity, he extended counsel to Char Dham pilgrims, beseeching them to plot their journey post a comprehensive weather update, as relayed by officials.

Exclusively confiding in ANI, CM Dhami delved into the predicament, affirming that the deluge had transformed several areas into submerged expanses. In response, both the SDRF and NDRF forces have been marshaled to the scene, orchestrating a well-coordinated rescue operation. In tandem, he beseeched pilgrims to embark upon their journeys with discernment, pausing to gauge the meteorological landscape.

Sharing his insight, CM Dhami conveyed, "Numerous locales stand engulfed by water. We have dissected the crisis in our disaster control hub, and consultations with Delhi authorities have transpired. The SDRF and NDRF units are steadfastly positioned on the ground. Our commitment to an exhaustive rescue endeavor remains unwavering. I implore all pilgrims to embark upon their quests fortified by comprehensive weather intelligence."
