Punjab Assembly elections 2027: Punjab SIR exercise to begin on June 25, says CEO Anindita Mitra
PTC Web Desk: Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra on Wednesday held a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties to discuss the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which will begin with a door-to-door verification campaign across the state from June 25.
She said the exercise, being conducted as per the schedule issued by the Election Commission of India, would continue until July 24. During this period, 24,453 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households across Punjab to distribute, collect and verify enumeration forms from eligible voters.
The verification drive will cover more than 21.4 million registered voters in the state. Alongside the exercise, the rationalisation of polling stations will also be carried out and completed by July 24. According to the election schedule, the draft electoral rolls will be published on August 3. Citizens will be able to submit claims and objections related to voter lists from August 2 to September 2, while their disposal will take place between August 3 and September 9.
Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra informed political party representatives that voter mapping for nearly 86 per cent of the state's electorate has already been completed. A list of voters who are yet to be mapped has been shared with political parties to help speed up the process. She urged all political parties to actively participate in the revision exercise and extend full cooperation to election officials to ensure that the voter verification process is completed smoothly and accurately.
The meeting also addressed concerns raised by political party representatives regarding the Special Intensive Revision process. Senior election officials and representatives of major political parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, BJP, Bahujan Samaj Party and Shiromani Akali Dal, attended the meeting.
