Wrestlers' harassment case: Brij Bhushan 'missed no opportunity', cops tell court

Wrestlers' harassment case: Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh tried to sexually harass female wrestlers anytime he spotted an opportunity, the Delhi police said today, arguing that there is enough evidence to frame charges against him.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment by several top women wrestlers, was exempted from appearing today in Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court.

Delhi Police maintained that Singh knew what he was doing by citing an alleged incident in Tajikistan.

According to the accusation of a woman wrestler, the accused called the complainant into the hotel and forcefully hugged her during an event in Tajikistan. When the complainant objected, Brij Bhushan Singh stated that he had acted in the manner of a father. "This clearly shows that he was fully aware of his actions," police stated in court.

The police further said that the question at hand is not whether the victim responded or not, but rather that she was wronged.

According to the police, another woman wrestler stated that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh pulled her shirt up without permission and inappropriately grabbed her stomach during the Asian Championship in Tajikistan.

The Delhi Police referenced another alleged incident from the WFI office in Delhi, arguing that the complaints should be filed in the national capital. Regarding the Sohrabuddin encounter case in Gujarat, they stated that numerous FIRs were filed independently, but the court heard them all simultaneously.

The oversight committee formed by the government to probe the charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh did not exonerate him, Delhi police previously told a court.

The Union Sports Ministry formed an oversight committee led by Indian boxing legend MC Mary Kom to look into the claims made by women wrestlers against Singh following their protest in the national capital.

Its report was not made public, but a copy was sent to the Delhi police, who are investigating Brij Bhushan Singh's charges.

The next hearing will be conducted at Rouse Avenue Court on October 7.
