Youth stabbed to death in broad daylight in Chandigarh, two weeks after marriage
PTC Web Desk: A young man riding a scooter was brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight in Chandigarh on Friday. The victim, identified as Sumit, a resident of Mauli Jagran, was attacked near a petrol pump close to the BJP office in Sector 37. According to police, the assailants arrived on a motorcycle and launched a knife attack, leaving the victim critically injured.
The police rushed Sumit to Sector 16 Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
It is learnt Sumit had recently been released on bail in a case related to narcotics. He had got married just two weeks ago.
Initial investigations suggest that the attackers are residents of Dadu Majra Colony. The victim’s family has alleged that he had been receiving threats from the accused for nearly a year.
Eyewitnesses told the police that two helmeted men arrived on a Bullet motorcycle, one of them armed with a sharp weapon. The attackers stabbed Sumit multiple times, including on his back, before fleeing the spot.
Despite being seriously wounded, Sumit managed to move nearly 50 metre before collapsing along with his scooter due to excessive bleeding. He reportedly removed his helmet and attempted to run but could only take a few steps before falling. The police recovered his scooter and one shoe from the scene.
The crime occurred in an area surrounded by major Punjab and central government offices and remains busy round-the-clock, adding to the gravity of the incident.
Sumit’s mother and sister alleged that the accused had been threatening him for over a year. According to them, the threats were often sent through videos, some of which were shared on social media platforms.
The family said Sumit had attended a court hearing in Chandigarh earlier in the day along with his mother. After the hearing, he dropped her home and later stepped out to buy household items, unaware that he was being targeted.
The police have started investigations.
