Security beefed up outside the Golden Temple, Amritsar
Punjab, especially Amritsar is on alert in the wake of the 34th anniversary of Operation Blue Star, here on Wednesday. Security has been beefed up outside the Golden Temple, Amritsar where the crackdown against the Khalistani terrorists took place in 1984. Several companies of paramilitary forces and Punjab Police have been deployed across the Amritsar city to maintain law and order, said reports. Five companies of the Rapid Action Force have also been deployed to maintain calm. Some 3,200 police personnel are manning security around the temple complex. There is also heavy police presence at all the entry and exit points of the Amrtisar city including airport, railway station and city bypass. Amidst heavy security arrangements by the SGPC, civil administration and the police, there were a few tense moments at the 34th Bluestar anniversary at Golden Temple when three unidentified youth attempted to create ruckus. However, the prayer ceremony passed off peacefully. They were reportedly caught and beaten up by SGPC task force and later police detained them for further investigation. -PTC News
