Pallonji Mistry, chairman of Shapoorji Pallonji group, dies at 93

Mumbai (Maharashtra), June 28: Pallonji Mistry, the billionaire industrialist and chairman of the Shapoorji Pallonji group, passed away at his Mumbai residence, company officials informed on Tuesday.


Mistry, 93, died mid-sleep at his south Mumbai residence on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, the officials added. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Mistry had accumulated a net worth of nearly $29 billion, ranking him among the richest people in India.

Shapoorji Pallonji group has a presence in several sectors including Engineering & Construction, Infrastructure, Real Estate, Water, Energy and Financial Services. According to its website, with an employee base of over 50,000 people, the group deliver end-to-end solutions across 50 nations.

For his achievements as an industrialist, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2016, the third-highest civilian honour in the country. He was one of the country's oldest billionaires. The Shapoorji Pallonji Group boasts of making many iconic buildings such as those of the Reserve Bank of India, Citi Bank headquarters in India, SAIL Steel Plant, and the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in Delhi among others.
