PTC Web Desk: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) received a political boost in Patiala on Thursday with the return of former Punjab Subordinates Services Board (PSSB) chairman Tejinderpal Singh Sandhu and his wife, Bibi Anup Inder Kaur Sandhu, who formally rejoined the party after parting ways with the SAD (Sudhar Lehar).

The announcement was made in the presence of Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal and senior party leader Balwinder Singh Bhundar. The Sandhu couple was welcomed back into the party with a traditional siropa by Sukhbir Singh Badal, marking what leaders described as a “homecoming”.

Senior Akali leader Tajinder Singh Middukhera was also present on the occasion.

Tejinderpal Singh Sandhu comes from a prominent political family in Patiala. His father, the late Jasdev Singh Sandhu, and mother, the late Jasdev Kaur Sandhu, both served multiple terms as MLAs. Sandhu himself contested the 2012 Punjab Assembly elections from the Sanaur constituency on a Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) ticket but was defeated in a closely fought contest by Congress leader Lal Singh.

The development is being seen as a setback for the SAD (Sudhar Lehar) and a strategic gain for the Badal-led Akali Dal ahead of upcoming political challenges in the state.
