HC takes tough stand on Qaumi Insaf Morcha protest at YPS Chowk in Mohali

Questions have been raised regarding the prolonged presence of these perotesters at the site for the past year, and the apparent lack of intervention by the Punjab Government. The High Court maintained that the closure of roads due to the protest has caused inconvenience to the general public, prompting concerns over the government's apparent inaction.In reference to some past instances, where force was employed, the High Court questioned that why similar actions were not being taken now.

The High Court noted that several persons were holding dharnas under the pretext of religious issues, a matter that cannot be condoned.

Though the High Court was all set to issue firm orders today, the Advocate General of Punjab sough time, after which the court granting a week's extension. 

Notably, the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha, which had been protesting at YPS Chowk in Mohali since January 7, 2023, is demanding the release of Sikh prisoners who have completed their jail terms.

Chandigarh, April 9: The Punjab and Hayana High Court has adopted a stern approach towards the ongoing demonstration by the Qaumi Insaf Morcha at YPS Chowk in Mohali. The protesters are seeking the release of Bandi Singhs. 

On Tuesday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued orders to the administrations of Punjab and Chandigarh, granting them time until April 18 to take necessary actions. "During this period, appropriate measures shall be implemented, or else the court will issue stringent directives," says the order.
