BRICS meet in Delhi: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi strongly criticised the United States during the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday, accusing Washington of using pressure tactics against other nations.

Addressing representatives from BRICS countries, Araghchi said many nations were facing similar forms of “coercion” and called for stronger cooperation among member countries to counter such actions.

He said growing instability in different regions of the world harms everyone involved, including those responsible for creating tensions. According to him, countries pursuing aggressive geopolitical policies may believe it serves their interests, but the long-term impact affects the global community as a whole.

The Iranian minister also said Tehran’s stand against what he described as “US bullying” was a struggle that many countries could relate to. He urged BRICS nations to work together and send a clear message that such behaviour no longer has a place in modern global politics.

In a sharp remark aimed at Washington, Araghchi said history has shown that declining powers often act aggressively in an attempt to maintain influence. He compared such actions to a wounded animal trying to resist its downfall.

His comments come at a time when tensions between Iran and the United States remain high following months of unrest and conflict in the Middle East.

The BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is being held in New Delhi on May 14 and 15. India currently holds the rotating presidency of the BRICS group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa along with its newer member nations.
