Parliament Monsoon session: Data Protection Bill among 31 bills likely to be taken up

Parliament Monsoon session: Monsoon session of Parliament begins on Thursday amid fury in Manipur, with the Opposition demanding a statement from India's Prime Minister.

Prahlad Joshi, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, has stated that 31 bills will be taken up during the monsoon session. The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023 is one of them.

Other significant legislation expected to be considered during the Session includes the Bill to Replace the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Ordinance, 2023, which was promulgated in May of this year. The ordinance regulates services in Delhi and was promulgated following the Supreme Court's decision on the Delhi government's appeal.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said yesterday that 34 parties and 44 leaders attended an all-party meeting called by the government to ensure the smooth operation of the monsoon session, which will last until August 11 and include 17 sittings.
