PM Modi accuses DMK of practicing 'politics of hate and division'

PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a scathing critique of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) during a rally in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore, as part of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Accusing the DMK of fostering a culture of division and hate, Modi lambasted the party for purportedly aligning with forces aiming to deter investment in India.

In his address, Modi underscored the contrasting visions of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the DMK. He highlighted the BJP government's efforts in establishing 'Defence Corridors' in Tamil Nadu, emphasising the strategic importance of such initiatives for the region's development. Implicitly questioning the DMK's commitment to progress, Modi rhetorically queried whether such significant infrastructure projects would materialise under the alleged mindset of the DMK-led INDI alliance.

Furthermore, Modi accused the Congress and the DMK of championing corrupt practices, positioning themselves as the vanguards of vested interests. He decried the DMK's history of divisive politics, contending that the party has consistently prioritised its agenda over the welfare of Tamil Nadu.

Promising accelerated development for the Nilgiris and Kongu regions under his government's third term, Modi asserted his commitment to the state's advancement, pledging a "Modi ki Guarantee" for progress. He emphasised the BJP-led NDA's dedication to inclusive growth, contrasting it with the purported neglect of marginalised communities by the Congress-DMK alliance.

In a pointed critique, Modi accused the Congress-DMK coalition of perpetuating systemic discrimination against scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and other backward classes (OBC) by denying them access to fundamental amenities. Highlighting his government's initiatives, including the provision of housing, electricity, and ration cards to millions, Modi positioned the BJP as the harbinger of equitable development, particularly for historically marginalised communities.

The Prime Minister's remarks signal a continuation of the electoral rhetoric that has characterised campaigning ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, with political parties vying to sway voters with contrasting narratives of progress and governance.

PM Modi criticises INDI alliance, says faith in India's strength

During a rally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took aim at the opposition INDI alliance, which includes the DMK, asserting, "The INDI alliance lacks faith in India's capabilities. Despite the global pandemic of COVID-19, they doubted India's ability to produce a vaccine. However, India not only developed a Made in India vaccine but also provided it free of cost, saving millions of lives."

Modi further highlighted the historic election of Droupadi Murmu as India's President in 2022, stating, "Traditional parties believe that only individuals from privileged backgrounds can hold high positions. However, the BJP broke this norm by electing a tribal woman as India's President, despite strong opposition from the INDI alliance."

Tamil Nadu will witness polling for all 39 seats in a single phase on April 19, with the vote count scheduled for June 4.
