Elections not fair from beginning: Rahul Gandhi after Mahagathbandhan's massive Bihar rout

PTC News Desk: After the Mahagathbandhan suffered  disastrous defeat in the Bihar Assembly election on Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi thanked voters who supported the alliance but said the election was not fair from the beginning.

In a post on X, he said the Opposition would continue to fight to “protect the Constitution and democracy.” Gandhi called the result a setback that requires serious reflection and said the Congress and the INDIA bloc would closely examine what went wrong and work harder in the future.

He added, “This fight is to protect the Constitution and democracy. The Congress Party and the INDIA alliance will carefully review this result and make their efforts stronger.”

The NDA, led by the BJP and JDU, won a historic victory, while Congress had one of its weakest showings in Bihar since 2010. In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the NDA won 202 seats, and the Mahagathbandhan got only 35.

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera claimed that the early trends showed “Gyanesh Kumar working against the people of Bihar,” and said the contest had become a fight between Gyanesh Kumar and the people of India, rather than between political parties.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said on X that the party accepts the people’s mandate but will continue to oppose those who “misuse constitutional institutions to weaken democracy.” He said Congress will analyse the results carefully, thanked those who voted for the Mahagathbandhan, and told party workers not to lose hope, stressing that the fight to “protect the Constitution and democracy” will continue with full determination.
