PM Modi accuses TMC of questioning the character of Sandeshkhali women: ‘To protect their Shahjahan…’

PTC News Desk: Regarding the Sandeshkhali problem, West Bengal's Trinamool Congress (TMC) came under fire from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

Modi claimed that TMC members are questioning the "characters of the sisters of Sandeshkhali" during a political rally in Purulia.

"The people of TMC are doubting the integrity of the Sandeshkhali sisters in order to defend 'their Shahjahan,'" Modi remarked. "The daughters of Bengal will respond to the TMC by destroying it through their votes, in response to the language that they (TMC) are using against them."

The Mamata Banerjee-led party, according to Modi, adopted the motto "Maa, Maati, and Manush," but they did nothing to defend them.

The prime minister declared, "The Sandeshkhali incident has shaken the women of Bengal... TMC has dehumanized the women of SC and ST communities to protect Shahjahan Sheikh." "TMC leaders are criticizing the women who endured atrocities."

Additionally, Modi claimed that the TMC had deviated from morality to the point where it was "spreading canards against ISKCON, Ramakrishna Mission, and Bharat Sevashram Sangha."

By disseminating false information about ISKCON, Ramakrishna Mission, and Bharat Sevashram Sangha, the TMC has overreached itself. They are being threatened by Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal. To please their voter base, they are threatening them," he said.

Modi was alluding to a remark made by Mamata Banerjee during an election campaign, in which she claimed that certain monks from Bharat Sevashram Sangha and Ramakrishna Mission were employed by BJP officials in Delhi. While many temple caretakers are performing excellent spiritual work, not all of them are. This task remains unfinished. She had stated, "We honor the monks."

Modi further asserted in his speech on Sunday that the TMC and Congress in West Bengal are really "two sides of the same coin."

He declared, "Large sums of money have been discovered at the homes of Congress leaders." In a same vein, the TMC leaders are carrying large sums of cash. Have I ever attempted to hide anything from you, even though they mistreat Modi?

Sandeshkhali in high heat

The riverine island made headlines in February of this year when village women called for the arrest of local TMC leader Sheikh Shajahan and his associates during violent protests over claims of sexual assault and land grabs. This year, the BJP made it a major election platform.

On May 4, however, the TMC issued an alleged sting video purporting to show a local BJP leader accusing opposition politician Suvendu Adhikari of having paid village women to make false rape charges.

On May 12, a TMC employee was beaten by a group of rural women led by BJP candidate Rekha Patra, who accused her of producing phony films. Four people were taken into custody by the police. After TMC workers allegedly tore a poster of a BJP leader, more fighting broke out. Village ladies used burning tires to impede traffic.

Currently serving a prison sentence for attacking a team from the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) during a raid on his home in connection with the suspected ration scam, Shahjahan is the main suspect in the Sandeshkhali case.

For the Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency, Rekha Patra of the BJP will face Haji Nurul Islam of the Trinamool Congress. In the final round, the constituency will cast ballots on June 1. On June 4, there will be a vote count.
