IAEA should take control and supervision of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal, says Rajnath Singh
PTC Web Desk: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to step in and monitor Pakistan’s nuclear weapons. His remarks come shortly after India and Pakistan de-escalated from their most serious military standoff in nearly 30 years.
Speaking at the Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Rajnath Singh questioned Pakistan’s reliability as a nuclear power.
“Can the world trust a reckless and rogue nation with nuclear weapons?” he asked. “I believe the IAEA should take control and supervision of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal.”
This visit marks the Defence Minister’s first trip to the region since Operation Sindoor, India’s precision military response to terror infrastructure across the border earlier this month.
During his two-day trip, Rajnath Singh is set to assess the overall security scenario, particularly along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border. Senior military leaders will brief him on the ground situation and troop readiness at the Indian Army’s XV Corps Headquarters in Srinagar.
The recent escalation began with India launching targeted strikes on May 7. In response, Pakistan attempted retaliatory attacks on Indian military installations on May 8, 9, and 10. India responded firmly, striking eight Pakistani air bases on May 10 using missiles and long-range weapons.
Tensions subsided after military officials from both sides held discussions on the afternoon of May 10, leading to a mutual agreement to halt further hostilities.
